Insight Bowl will be at Thursday, 6 p.m., at the NFL network. Watch as the Minnesota Team will engaged the Iowa State team. I have the video about their game in the link below.Read more about the Insight bowl from the article of thequad.blogs.nytimes.com:

Minnesota’s life post-Glen Mason has been nothing if not Mason-esque, with the Gophers struggling through back-to-back six-loss seasons under Tim Brewster. The Cyclones had clearly hit rock bottom roughly a year ago, when its second-year coach, Gene Chizik, ditched his rebuilding project for the job at Auburn. As part of his rationale for leaving Ames, Chizik claimed the difficulty in producing a winner at Iowa State to be too demanding a task.

Von Trapp Family

Posted by Global Information News at 11:03 PM 0 comments

The musical movie based on the Von Trapp family, The Sound of Music, is based around Baroness Maria Augusta von Trapp, she was a stepmother and matriarch of the Trapp Family Singers. The story tells of her story and that of her family’s escape from the Nazis after the Anschluss.

Her book, which was called The Story of the Trapp Family Singers, it was a best seller when it was published in 1949. It was also made into some very successful German/ Austrian movies, titled, The Trapp Family made in 1956, and The Trapp Family in America made in 1958.

The book was then later adapted to The Sound of Music, which was also very successful as a Broadway Musical by Rodgers and Hammerstein. This then launched onto the immensely popular U.S. motion picture.

Maria Von Trapp also makes a cameo appearance in the film during the musical number “I have Confidence.”

The movie starred Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, and contains many popular songs such as “Edelweiss”, “My Favourite Things”, “Do-Re-Mi”, as well as the title song. IT was filmed on location in Salzburg, Austria, and also in Bavaria in Southern Germany, while also at the 20th Century Fox Studios in California.

It went onto win five Academy Awards including Best Picture in 1965, and is one of the most popular musicals ever produced.

New York - Blackberry users struggle with e-mail outage

Users of Research In Motion's Blackberry smart phones struggled with an e-mail outage Tuesday evening.

Phone calling and texting services appeared to be functional, but users in North America were unable to send or receive e-mail messages. Would-be users tweeted their frustration on social networking site Twitter. Some said they also could not connect to the Internet.

Waterloo, Ontario-based Research in Motion Ltd. didn't immediately return calls seeking comment.

It marks the second time in less than a week that BlackBerry users in North America have had to deal with e-mail outages on their Blackberry devices. Research In Motion said last Thursday that technicians had isolated and resolved the issue and were investigating the cause. RIM didn't say how many users were affected or how long that outage lasted.

Hazy Shade of Winter

Posted by Global Information News at 8:56 PM 0 comments
Time, time, time, see what's become of me While I looked around For my possibilities I was so hard to please But look around, leaves are brown And the sky is a hazy shade of winter

Hear the salvation army band Down by the riverside, it's bound to be a better ride Than what you've got planned Carry your cup in your hand And look around, leaves are brown now And the sky is a hazy shade of winter

Hang on to your hopes, my friend That's an easy thing to say, but if your hope should pass away It's simply pretend That you can build them again Look around, the grass is high The fields are ripe, it's the springtime of my life

Ahhh, seasons change with the scenery Weaving time in a tapestry Won't you stop and remember me At any convenient time Funny how my memory slips while looking over manuscripts Of unpublished rhyme Drinking my vodka and lime

Dexter Season 5

Posted by Global Information News at 1:12 AM 0 comments
The Season 4 of hit show Dexter, left with a huge cliffhanger. With Rita Bennett (Dexter’s wife), and one other major characters being killed. The shows producers had said they wanted to give a shocking finale that no other show had done. Looks like they succeeded.

Clyde Phillips the executive producer explained,”The story evolved and it kind of became inevitable. We knew that we had to do more than kill Trinity. It’s a little bit of a corner that we paint ourselves into. Last year we tried to avoid that and actually I think we didn’t do as well as we could have.” in answer to why they also had Rita fall.

The shocking finale, on Sunday Dec 13, leaves us with a insight of Dexter’s own memories. And how he watched his mother die in front of him and also soaked in her blood, with Rita leaving to go to a romantic escapade only to forget her ID, this is when she ends up being murdered in the bathtub, by Trinity. Meanwhile the baby Harrison is left crying in a pool of her blood.Phillips also revealed that Julie Benz who plays Rita, was not too happy about being killed off. “She loved being with us. We loved having her with us. She took it… professionally. She was greatly disappointed. She’s a professional. She works in television. She knew that this was a possibility.”

The writers also had an alternative ending for the finale, which was not chosen at the end. “While Dexter was packing to leave, he saw on the television that a child murderer had just escaped from prison. Either escaped or fallen thru the cracks. So he’s thinking, ‘Do I join Rita on vacation or do I…’ and then he looks towards the camera and he has this big decision,” Phillips explained.

We will be waiting till around September for the shows return, where we can see the outcome to Deb finding out that Dex is related to the Ice Truck Killer, and if she will find out about his alter ego.

BCS Bowl Games - In a Word: Disappointing

Posted by Global Information News at 8:39 PM 0 comments
After the games ended yesterday and before the matchups were released, I was hoping for the following (knowing that Texas vs. Alabama was a shoe-in):

That TCU would get to play Florida.
That Boise State would get to play Cincinnati

I wanted those matchups because I'm sure people still think that Florida is a great team and they only lost to the best team in the country and would beat anyone else. I see a TCU team that would be able to match up physically on defense against Florida and it would be fun to watch a so called "mid major" chase Tebow around all day and knock the rest of that team into the dirt. Essentially, I view TCU as a team that has not only the best chance to beat Florida, but to shame them. I wanted to see Boise State play Cincy because the two teams could possibly provide enough electricity to power an entire third world country for a year and would play in what would have been the most exciting bowl game of the year.

Instead, we're getting what we're getting and the powers that be in college football have figured out a way to screw up what should not be screw-up-able.
So here are the matchups (all rankings BCS)

Citi National Championship GameJanuary 7, 2010 at 5:30 p.m. PTPasadena, California
No. 2 Texas (13-0) vs. No. 1 Alabama (13-0)

Hooray. Have you ever seen an elephant eat a longhorn before? Well, we're going to witness that crime against nature on January 7. This will not be an exciting game. This will be a beating. There are enough cooking shows on TV now that we've all seen a professional chef expertly dice up onions. He's precise and lightning fast. Alabama is the chef in this analogy and Texas is the onion, except instead of using a knife, Alabama is going to use a mallet. I just see them bashing Texas into oblivion. Whatever the under is, bet that, and whatever the spread is, bet on Alabama. Trust me. They're going to kill Texas.
Allstate Sugar BowlJanuary 1, 2010 at 5:30 p.m. PTNew Orleans, Louisiana
No. 3 Cincinnati (12-0) vs. No. 5 Florida (12-1)

As we saw in the final BCS rankings, Cincy came in third with a BCS % of .888 (Alabama .998; Texas .943; Cincy .888; TCU 884; Florida .864; Boise State .811), which narrowly edged them over TCU, so if Texas would have lost, Cincy would have played Alabama in the title game, but just barely (by 2 one hundredths). And freakin' Florida is still ranked higher than Boise State. As much as I love college football I hate it as well. It's corrupt and ridiculous. It looks like the Harris Poll and the Coaches Poll liked TCU better, but the computers put Cincy and Florida over TCU. What? I like Cincy's chances to score on Florida because they have the athletes that can get up and down the field, plus they're playing in a dome and they've got enough speed to do some damage. Also do not underestimate how massively disappointed that Florida is because they are not playing in the big show. I give Cincy a great chance in this game, even if they give up points like they've bet the over.

Tal Wilkenfeld

Posted by Global Information News at 10:07 PM 0 comments
Widely hailed as "the rising star of the bass guitar," Tal Wilkenfeld first picked up guitar at the age of 14, in her native Sydney, Australia. She soon realized her passion and decided to pursue music professionally in the United States. After a year of studying guitar in Los Angeles, Tal found her true calling, and switched to the bass. It didn't take long for the 17-year-old prodigy to get noticed; after playing bass for only a few months, famed luthier Roger Sadowsky heard her play and immediately offered her an endorsement with Sadowsky Guitars.

Very quickly, Tal started performing as a sideman and bandleader, playing with the likes of Russell Ferrante, Kenwood Dennard, Hiram Bullock, Jeff "Tain" Watts, Leni Stern, Susan Tedeschi, and the Allman Brothers Band.

In May 2006, Tal recorded her first solo album, "Transformation." She was 20, and had been playing bass for only three years. As well as demonstrating her prowess on bass, Tal also composed, arranged, and produced the album. The CD, which was released in 2007, features guitar savant Wayne Krantz (one of Tal's musical mentors), Geoff Keezer, Keith Carlock and Seamus Blake. It has been widely acclaimed by critics and music fans all over the world, with Bass Player magazine noting, "On her aptly-titled, vibrant debut, Wilkenfeld displays a writing depth and musical presence to complement the buzz about her dynamic-yet-discerning bass approach. Tal has a natural gift for writing in odd meters while retaining an indelible sense of melody and groove. Make no mistake, this lass is poised to soar."

Michaele Salahi

Posted by Global Information News at 10:18 PM 0 comments
Tareq and Michaele Salahi, part of the cast of a reality show called "The Real Housewives of DC," crashed Tuesday's state dinner at the White House. Facebook photos of the couple posing with Vice President Joe Biden and Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel indicate that the couple had up-close access to some of Washington's elite, without actually being on the guest list.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Crashing a state dinner at the White House apparently takes a security breakdown as well as some kind of nerve.
The Secret Service is looking into its own security procedures after determining that a Virginia couple, Michaele and Tareq Salahi, managed to slip into Tuesday night's state dinner at the White House even though they were not on the guest list, agency spokesman Ed Donovan said.
President Barack Obama was never in any danger because the party crashers went through the same security screening for weapons as the 300-plus people actually invited to the dinner honoring Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Donovan said.

Donovan confirmed the identities of the couple. The Washington Post, which first reported on their evening out, said the Salahis were well-known in the Virginia horse-country set.
The Secret Service learned about the security breach Wednesday after a media inquiry prompted by the Salahis' online boasts about having attended the private event, Donovan said.
One of the many photos from the dinner posted on Michaele Salahi's Facebook page shows the couple with a smiling Vice President Joe Biden. In other photos, they appear alone or together with White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, Washington Mayor Adrian Fenty, CBS News anchor Katie Couric, Rep. Ed Royce, R-Calif., and three Marines in their dress blues.
Donovan would not comment on whether the couple had been contacted by the Secret Service, how long they were on the White House grounds or other details of the investigation.

The agency's Office of Professional Responsibility was reviewing what occurred. An initial finding indicated that a checkpoint did not follow proper procedures to ensure the two were on the guest list, Donovan said.

"It's important to note that they went through all the security screenings - the magnetometer screening - just like all the other guests did," Donovan said. And, he added, Obama and others under Secret Service protection had their usual security details with them at the dinner.

Of course not all will be so lucky. Meteorologists in the Grand Rapids area in Michigan have already said it may be difficult to see due to clouds in the region, and the same will hold true for others.

Scientists have also said the show is likely to be less spectacular in North America. The best viewing spot on the planet for the Leonid Meteor Shower is predicted to be Asia.

Lorenzo Von Matterhorn

The Name 'Lorenzo Von Matterhorn' is quite the rage amongst web surfers today, not bad for being the entirely fictional pseudonym of an entirely fictional How I Met Your Mother character. Lorenzo Von Matterhorn is but one of Barney's (Neil Patrick Harris) many non de plume's on the show. Von Matterhorn made an appearance this evening, setting off an explosion of web interest – most of it propelled by the discovery of a Wikipedia page that had been created for the character. The page is a lot fun, mostly talking about Matterhorn's afflictions – he suffers from phallumegaly, or bigness of penis disorder – and various hobbies. Problem is, Wikipedia – as we all know – is a bastion of fact, and so this little bit of How I Met Your Mother fun had to go.

The Pop ChallengeAlison announces that the winner of this week’s Pop Challenge will win a one pound advantage. There are boards with their colors and have 50 tennis balls. After five minutes, it gets harder because they must take a running jump to get to the top row. Allen maintains his lead followed by Daniel, Rudy and Rebecca. Allen and Rebecca are down to four balls, Rudy has six. Allen jumps, misses, jumps again as Rebecca arrives for her last ball. Allen gets it on the second jump and wins the challenge.

After the challenge, Amanda and Rebecca take a quick walk and talk about how it’s down to old against young. They group themselves as young with Daniel and Shay. We are then treated to Danny talking about how the red line is now the cliff. Liz is having problems with her knee and feels she will be easily picked off.

Maine Election Results 2009

Posted by Global Information News at 8:28 PM 0 comments
Maine election results 2009 are anticipated. The Maine gay marriage vote is important to Maine voters this election year. Maine election results 2009 for the Maine gay marriage question 1 have many implications.
In May, Maine’s governor signed an order which legalized gay marriage in Maine. Question 1 during the Maine election in 2009 centers on a “citizens veto” of legalized gay marriage.

So far, whenever a gay marriage repeal has been placed on a ballot, it’s been passed. Citizens for the most part aren’t as excited about gay marriage as you may think. Why not? Aren’t we free to love whoever we want? According to many people’s belief systems, they don’t want their children to be taught that marriage between a man/man or woman/woman is acceptable.

We need to respect the views of these people. They either have religious beliefs or their own personal set of morals. However, a gay marriage repeal would prove devastating for gay couples across Maine.

The Maine gay marriage vote during the Maine election 2009 is important either way you look at it. If legislation is passed, it will be that much harder for any new states to pass gay marriage legalization. If Question 1 is successfully defeated, it will show those that oppose gay marriage that their footing isn’t as strong as it used to be.

Most World Series Championships

Posted by Global Information News at 10:21 PM 0 comments
The list of World Series Champions by team topped the trends today. A lot are curious of who were the previous winners of the World Series. The World Series is the annual championship series of Major League Baseball (MLB). It has been the highest level of professional baseball in the United States and Canada since 1903, concluding the postseason of Major League Baseball.

The World Series is played between the champion clubs of the American League and the National League, which as of 2009 collectively include 29 clubs based inthe United States and one club from Canada, whose rosters contain players from around the world.

World Series Game 5

Posted by Global Information News at 10:15 PM 0 comments
If only Chase Utley managed to hit that three-run homer Sunday night in the bottom of the fifth, the Phillies may be on their way to New York right now looking to wrap up a title. Instead, Utley's first inning blast of A.J. Burnett gave the Phillies a much needed lift in Game 5 of the 2009 World Series, spearheading a comeback and hanging on to an 8-6 victory. By doing so, the Phillies are taking the series back to New York Wednesday for Game 6. Utley later tied Reggie Jackson's World Series record of five home runs set in 1977 when he drilled a seventh inning blast. The Phillies may have won the game, but even when they win, they seem to lose in some capacity these days.
Shane Victorino was drilled in the right hand by Burnett prior to Utley's homer in the first inning. Victorino's effectiveness is a cause for concern, especially his throwing arm. Due to the recent number of beanings of A-Fraud, Burnett may have been seeking some retribution again the Phillies. It was unlikely however, that he may have been trying to hit the hand of Victorino, who showed a last-second bunt attempt.

While Utley currently has the hot hand, and Raul Ibanez added a home run, Ryan Howard continues to have a horrible series. Tonight, Howard tied Willie Wilson's record of 12 strikeouts in a World Series set in 1980 (ironically, it was against the Phillies).

Chan Ho Park

Posted by Global Information News at 11:45 PM 0 comments

Chan Ho Park:Park-for-Myers was an expected trade-off. The Phillies believe Park is healthy after missing nearly a month with a right hamstring strain, and Myers hasn’t been effective since he returned in late September from a strained upper-back muscle. Park figures to return to his mid- to late-inning relief role, though it’s unclear if he’ll be ready to pitch multiple innings, as he did before he suffered the injury on Sept. 16.

NASA Moon Bombing

Posted by Global Information News at 3:27 AM 0 comments
It sounds like a plan to battle Dr. Evil, but NASA is behind it -- bombing the Moon. ("Would you miss it?")The Moon bombing on Friday isn't just NASA target practice. There's a reason.

By Friday morning, we can expect that any aliens on the moon will be really ticked off at us. But if we're really lucky, the drinks they pour to toast our demise will be, er, on the rocks. Friday is the day NASA's LCROSS mission (short for Lunar CRater Observation and Sensing Satellite) sends a spent booster rocket crashing into a crater near the lunar south pole, looking to see if there is ice mixed in the soil of the crater's floor. Scientists think there may be billions of gallons of it, but so far they haven't been able to prove it.

So the LCROSS booster will go plowing into the moon's surface at 5,600 miles per hour. It is expected to make a crater about 60 feet across -- and send 350 tons of rock and soil flying in all directions, creating a plume several miles high. If there is ice mixed in, a small satellite, flying on the same path less than 400 miles behind the rocket, should be able to detect it before it crashes too, about four minutes later.

Demi Moore Bush Pic

Posted by Global Information News at 4:12 AM 0 comments
Every couple of months the search engines go wild again looking for that Demi Moore Bush pic. It usually coincides with either Demi Moore or her husband, Ashton Kutcher, doing something or other. A couple of months back it was the result of a Comedy Central show, Tosh.0.

The presenter was (at least the presenter claimed to be) upset that Ashton Kutcher had so many Twitter followers and so suggested that people search for the Demi Moore Bush pic so that they would "unfollow" Kutcher.

Quite why such a picture should make people do so is an interesting little piece of social history. The picture itself comes from a shoot that Demi Moore did as a young starlet in Hollywood. It's not unusual for those who wish to break into the movies to have professional pics taken of themselves (well, at least for the women) wearing less than the normal amount of clothing. The pictures themselves vary between what we might call softcore and cheesecake: no underwear, a blue dress that varies in its positioning.

In Moore's photo set there are pictures that show a breast, and in another her dress rises up so that one is presented with rather more of Ms. Moore than would normally be seen in public, even on a French beach. So far, nothing really all that unusual for those trying to make it in the movies.

The interesting thing (apart from their being pictures of a beautiful young woman in the prime of life, something often of interest to most men) is that as was the style then, Demi Moore is untrimmed. In more detail, she has not had a "Brazilian", her pudenda has not been waxed. What is interesting is that those 25 or so years ago, this is what adult women looked like. In fact, without intervention this is what adult women would look like now.

Tsunami Destroys Samoa Villages After Powerful Quake

Posted by Global Information News at 11:11 PM 0 comments
WASHINGTON/WELLINGTON - At least 25 people died in the Pacific island states of Samoa and American Samoa after a tsunami was triggered by a magnitude 8.0 earthquake Tuesday, according to reports from the region.
A number of coastal villages were swept away and reports said the death toll was bound to rise as people who were evacuated to higher ground after the shake returned to lower levels.
Local radio stations in American Samoa reported 14 deaths and a Red Cross official in Apia, the capital of neighbouring Samoa, told Radio New Zealand there had been at least 11 deaths in that state.

The US Geological Survey put the magnitude of the quake, which was located about 204 km southwest of Samoa, at 8.0 on the Richter scale after earlier estimating it at 8.3.
As aftershocks continued to hit the two Samoa states, seismologists reported two further quakes measuring 5.6 and a third of 5.8 in the South Pacific.

Reports said villages on the south coast of Samoa’s main island Upolu had been extensively damaged by the tsunami, which sent waves up to 800 metres inland. About five hours after the first quake, the Red Cross spokeswoman told Radio New Zealand the tsunami warning had been lifted and people were beginning to return to the sites of their homes to inspect the damage.

Injury to Conan O’Brien Forces ‘Tonight’ Show Rerun

Posted by Global Information News at 2:23 AM 0 comments
NBC’s “Tonight” show was forced to broadcast a repeat rather than its regularly scheduled first-run show Friday night after the star, Conan O’Brien, hit his head while attempting a stunt during the show’s taping.

Mr. O’Brien could not continue with the show and was taken away for medical attention. NBC issued a brief statement saying only that Mr. O’Brien had “hit his head doing a stunt and the show was not finished.”
No other details were released. One staff member on the show said Mr. O’Brien was expected to be fine and it was likely he would be back to work on Monday.

NBC also released a statement attributed to Mr. O’Brien, which said, “Last thing I remember I was enjoying the play with Mrs. Lincoln and the next thing I knew I was in bed being served cookies and juice.”
