Tal Wilkenfeld

Posted by Global Information News at 10:07 PM 0 comments
Widely hailed as "the rising star of the bass guitar," Tal Wilkenfeld first picked up guitar at the age of 14, in her native Sydney, Australia. She soon realized her passion and decided to pursue music professionally in the United States. After a year of studying guitar in Los Angeles, Tal found her true calling, and switched to the bass. It didn't take long for the 17-year-old prodigy to get noticed; after playing bass for only a few months, famed luthier Roger Sadowsky heard her play and immediately offered her an endorsement with Sadowsky Guitars.

Very quickly, Tal started performing as a sideman and bandleader, playing with the likes of Russell Ferrante, Kenwood Dennard, Hiram Bullock, Jeff "Tain" Watts, Leni Stern, Susan Tedeschi, and the Allman Brothers Band.

In May 2006, Tal recorded her first solo album, "Transformation." She was 20, and had been playing bass for only three years. As well as demonstrating her prowess on bass, Tal also composed, arranged, and produced the album. The CD, which was released in 2007, features guitar savant Wayne Krantz (one of Tal's musical mentors), Geoff Keezer, Keith Carlock and Seamus Blake. It has been widely acclaimed by critics and music fans all over the world, with Bass Player magazine noting, "On her aptly-titled, vibrant debut, Wilkenfeld displays a writing depth and musical presence to complement the buzz about her dynamic-yet-discerning bass approach. Tal has a natural gift for writing in odd meters while retaining an indelible sense of melody and groove. Make no mistake, this lass is poised to soar."

Michaele Salahi

Posted by Global Information News at 10:18 PM 0 comments
Tareq and Michaele Salahi, part of the cast of a reality show called "The Real Housewives of DC," crashed Tuesday's state dinner at the White House. Facebook photos of the couple posing with Vice President Joe Biden and Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel indicate that the couple had up-close access to some of Washington's elite, without actually being on the guest list.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Crashing a state dinner at the White House apparently takes a security breakdown as well as some kind of nerve.
The Secret Service is looking into its own security procedures after determining that a Virginia couple, Michaele and Tareq Salahi, managed to slip into Tuesday night's state dinner at the White House even though they were not on the guest list, agency spokesman Ed Donovan said.
President Barack Obama was never in any danger because the party crashers went through the same security screening for weapons as the 300-plus people actually invited to the dinner honoring Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Donovan said.

Donovan confirmed the identities of the couple. The Washington Post, which first reported on their evening out, said the Salahis were well-known in the Virginia horse-country set.
The Secret Service learned about the security breach Wednesday after a media inquiry prompted by the Salahis' online boasts about having attended the private event, Donovan said.
One of the many photos from the dinner posted on Michaele Salahi's Facebook page shows the couple with a smiling Vice President Joe Biden. In other photos, they appear alone or together with White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, Washington Mayor Adrian Fenty, CBS News anchor Katie Couric, Rep. Ed Royce, R-Calif., and three Marines in their dress blues.
Donovan would not comment on whether the couple had been contacted by the Secret Service, how long they were on the White House grounds or other details of the investigation.

The agency's Office of Professional Responsibility was reviewing what occurred. An initial finding indicated that a checkpoint did not follow proper procedures to ensure the two were on the guest list, Donovan said.

"It's important to note that they went through all the security screenings - the magnetometer screening - just like all the other guests did," Donovan said. And, he added, Obama and others under Secret Service protection had their usual security details with them at the dinner.

The Leonid Meteor Shower will hit its peak early in the morning Tuesday, Nov. 17.
For those far enough from city lights and fortunate enough to have clear skies, it will be quite a sight and here's some tips on where and how to see it.

Of course not all will be so lucky. Meteorologists in the Grand Rapids area in Michigan have already said it may be difficult to see due to clouds in the region, and the same will hold true for others.

Scientists have also said the show is likely to be less spectacular in North America. The best viewing spot on the planet for the Leonid Meteor Shower is predicted to be Asia.

Lorenzo Von Matterhorn

Posted by Global Information News at 12:03 AM 0 comments
The Name 'Lorenzo Von Matterhorn' is quite the rage amongst web surfers today, not bad for being the entirely fictional pseudonym of an entirely fictional How I Met Your Mother character. Lorenzo Von Matterhorn is but one of Barney's (Neil Patrick Harris) many non de plume's on the show. Von Matterhorn made an appearance this evening, setting off an explosion of web interest – most of it propelled by the discovery of a Wikipedia page that had been created for the character. The page is a lot fun, mostly talking about Matterhorn's afflictions – he suffers from phallumegaly, or bigness of penis disorder – and various hobbies. Problem is, Wikipedia – as we all know – is a bastion of fact, and so this little bit of How I Met Your Mother fun had to go.

Shay Biggest Loser

Shay Biggest Loser,Shay Biggest Loser Weight:Tonight’s episode of NBC’s The Biggest Loser, Second Chance, opens with our contestants talking about how far they have come and how they must all put on their best game from here on. Then they join Alison who announces that this week two players will be eliminated. She explains that this week there will be not only a yellow line, but also a red line… the person below the red line will go home – no vote, just gone.

The Pop ChallengeAlison announces that the winner of this week’s Pop Challenge will win a one pound advantage. There are boards with their colors and have 50 tennis balls. They will have to jump up, get the ball and put it in a container. Shay worries that she is screwed because she is so much heavier than all the others. Liz and Amanda will have to sit this one out due to, you guessed it… medical reasons. They are off, Allen takes an early lead. Rudy is right behind him, followed by Daniel.

After five minutes, it gets harder because they must take a running jump to get to the top row. Allen maintains his lead followed by Daniel, Rudy and Rebecca. Allen and Rebecca are down to four balls, Rudy has six. Allen jumps, misses, jumps again as Rebecca arrives for her last ball. Allen gets it on the second jump and wins the challenge.

After the challenge, Amanda and Rebecca take a quick walk and talk about how it’s down to old against young. They group themselves as young with Daniel and Shay. We are then treated to Danny talking about how the red line is now the cliff. Liz is having problems with her knee and feels she will be easily picked off.

Maine Election Results 2009

Posted by Global Information News at 8:28 PM 0 comments
Maine election results 2009 are anticipated. The Maine gay marriage vote is important to Maine voters this election year. Maine election results 2009 for the Maine gay marriage question 1 have many implications.
In May, Maine’s governor signed an order which legalized gay marriage in Maine. Question 1 during the Maine election in 2009 centers on a “citizens veto” of legalized gay marriage.

So far, whenever a gay marriage repeal has been placed on a ballot, it’s been passed. Citizens for the most part aren’t as excited about gay marriage as you may think. Why not? Aren’t we free to love whoever we want? According to many people’s belief systems, they don’t want their children to be taught that marriage between a man/man or woman/woman is acceptable.

We need to respect the views of these people. They either have religious beliefs or their own personal set of morals. However, a gay marriage repeal would prove devastating for gay couples across Maine.

The Maine gay marriage vote during the Maine election 2009 is important either way you look at it. If legislation is passed, it will be that much harder for any new states to pass gay marriage legalization. If Question 1 is successfully defeated, it will show those that oppose gay marriage that their footing isn’t as strong as it used to be.

Most World Series Championships

Posted by Global Information News at 10:21 PM 0 comments
The list of World Series Champions by team topped the trends today. A lot are curious of who were the previous winners of the World Series. The World Series is the annual championship series of Major League Baseball (MLB). It has been the highest level of professional baseball in the United States and Canada since 1903, concluding the postseason of Major League Baseball.

The World Series is played between the champion clubs of the American League and the National League, which as of 2009 collectively include 29 clubs based inthe United States and one club from Canada, whose rosters contain players from around the world.

World Series Game 5

Posted by Global Information News at 10:15 PM 0 comments
If only Chase Utley managed to hit that three-run homer Sunday night in the bottom of the fifth, the Phillies may be on their way to New York right now looking to wrap up a title. Instead, Utley's first inning blast of A.J. Burnett gave the Phillies a much needed lift in Game 5 of the 2009 World Series, spearheading a comeback and hanging on to an 8-6 victory. By doing so, the Phillies are taking the series back to New York Wednesday for Game 6. Utley later tied Reggie Jackson's World Series record of five home runs set in 1977 when he drilled a seventh inning blast. The Phillies may have won the game, but even when they win, they seem to lose in some capacity these days.
Shane Victorino was drilled in the right hand by Burnett prior to Utley's homer in the first inning. Victorino's effectiveness is a cause for concern, especially his throwing arm. Due to the recent number of beanings of A-Fraud, Burnett may have been seeking some retribution again the Phillies. It was unlikely however, that he may have been trying to hit the hand of Victorino, who showed a last-second bunt attempt.

While Utley currently has the hot hand, and Raul Ibanez added a home run, Ryan Howard continues to have a horrible series. Tonight, Howard tied Willie Wilson's record of 12 strikeouts in a World Series set in 1980 (ironically, it was against the Phillies).
